The Big Hit is a 1998 American action comedy directed by Hong Kong filmmaker Kirk Wong and starring Mark Wahlberg, Christina Applegate, Avery Brooks, Lou Diamond Phillips, and Elliot Gould. Melvin Smiley (Wahlberg) is part of an elite assassin team. However, he's not the cold-blooded macho man you might expect. He's a helpless character, suffering from an ulcer and trying to maintain two unhappy relationships. On the job, his team is restless. They feel underpaid for the work they do for mob boss Paris (Brooks), so they pursue an independent job. They kidnap the daughter of a wealthy businessman, hoping for a big payout in ransom. Everything goes wrong when they learn the businessman is broke and the girl is Paris's god-daughter. Now, Smiley has to work his way out of this potentially deadly situation that culminates in a spectacular gun fight guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat. The Big Hit is an action-packed thrill ride produced by legendary Hong Kong visionary John Woo.moreless
