The Big Kahuna is a dark comedy about the desperate lives of salesmen. At a manufacturer's convention for industrial lubricants, three salesmen hang out in the hospitality suite of a hotel, hoping to close a big deal. Phil Cooper (Danny DeVito) is the oldest of the three. He tries to stay in good cheer despite the fact that his marriage recently collapsed and he is trying to stop drinking. Bob Walker (Peter Facinelli) is the youngest of the salesmen. Recently married, he is still enthusiastic about his job. It's his first big convention so he tries to stay quiet and learn from his older peers. In marked contrast, Larry Mann (Kevin Spacey) is a brash, profane wheeler-dealer. Phil and Bob tire of his incessant chatter, but neither can leave as they wait for the "big kahuna" to arrive. The Big Kahuna offers a dark glimpse into the loneliness of corporate America.
