The Black Cat is an Italian movie about making a movie, a 1989 horror about a witch turned serial killer. Movie director Marc Ravenna (Urbano Barberini) places his wife, Anne (Florence Guerin), in the key role of the infamous witch Levana, who first appeared in an essay by De Quincey called Suspiria De Profundis. However, Anne begins having troubling nightmares that seem to blur the line between real life, her dreams, and her character. It seems that Levana does not approve of the casting choice. She leaps from Anne's mirror and begins terrorizing her house, at one point causing the refrigerator to explode. The film plays with sequences that may or may not be Anne's dreams, until the witch suddenly comes to life on the set and begins a murderous rampage against the filmmakers. Anne seems to be the only one who can control this nightmare turned real. However, the witch has her eyes on Anne and Marc's baby.
