The Bliss of Mrs. Blossom is a quirky romantic comedy about a marriage that drives a woman to desperate and curious ends. Harriet Blossom (Shirley MacLaine) is unhappily married to Robert Blossom (Richard Attenborough), a brassiere manufacturer. Robert is dedicated wholly to his work and to music, and Harriet becomes a second fiddle and second thought. In her exhaustion and disappointment, she turns to one of Robert's employees, Ambrose Tuttle (James Booth). However, unlike the typical love affair story, Harriet oddly hides Ambrose in the Blossoms' attic. There she keeps him for many years while their love affair blooms in secret. Investigator Dylan (Freddie Jones) comes looking for Ambrose. He pries into the Blossoms' affairs, but Harriet deftly escapes his questions and his searches. Robert, in the mean time, begins to wonder if he is going crazy because of the noises he is constantly hearing overhead in the house, unaware of his permanent guest. The all-star cast spins out this curious 1968 love story, certainly a story reflective of the changing mores of its day.moreless
