The Blue Butterfly is a 2004 Canadian adventure-drama based on a true story and directed by Lea Pool. Pete Carlton (Marc Donato) and his mother Teresa (Pascale Bussieres) live in Montreal and are trying to deal with the fact that Pete has terminal cancer. He is fascinated by butterflies and regularly watches an entomology show hosted by Alan Osborne (William Hurt). All Pete wants before he dies is to find the rare Blue Morpho butterfly. Teresa arranges a meeting with Osborne to try to convince him to go with them to Costa Rica and help Pete find it, but Osborne turns her down. He finally agrees when Pete tells him he'll do it with or without him. They all arrive in a small Costa Rican village and find out that the butterflies have already migrated, which crushes them both. They decide to head back home, but they then find a single Blue Morpho in the jungle. Their chase to catch the elusive insect leads them on an adventure that will change their lives forever.
