Denzel Washington plays Eli, a drifter in a post-apocalyptic world, who must transport the last remaining Bible to a special location on the West Coast of the United States. Eli travels by foot and encounters strange men, strange women and even Tom Waits as the Engineer along the way. The apocalyptic nature of the world is explained throughout Eli's journey and revealed to viewers as they watch the action unfold before their eyes.
