The Bow is a Korean movie about the relationship between an old man and a young girl. The two live quietly on their fishing boat, under an agreement that the young woman (Yeo-reum Han) will marry her companion (Seong-hwang Jeon) when she is seventeen. They make a living by chartering their boat to day fishers and by strange divination rites involving his magical bow and a photo of Buddha, which he shoots at while the girl swings in front of it. The bow is also a weapon to protect them and a musical instrument. Their life is quiet until a teenaged boy (Si-jeok Seo) comes aboard and finds out the girl's past. The captain abducted her ten years ago, when she was only six, to be his future bride. Determined to rescue her, he returns to the ship. The movie has very little dialogue, a trademark of director Kim Ki-Duk, telling its story instead through images and body language.
