The Brain

Movie Summary

Director:
Ed Hunt
Released:
1988
Rating:
R
The Brain is the perfect example of an early 1980s low-budget monster movie. The sinister Dr. Blake (David Gale) hosts a quasi-religious self-help television program called Independent Thinkers, urging viewers to think for themselves (and recruit new viewers, of course). The secret of Dr. Blake's show, however, isn't the host or the message - it's a malevolent alien entity known as The Brain, which uses mind control to hypnotize viewers of the show. As if that isn't bad enough, the alien's influence has the unfortunate side effect of killing its viewers. When high school prankster Jim (Tom Bresnahan) is sent to Dr. Blake for therapy, the student unwittingly becomes locked in a battle against evil with the fate of the world quite possibly in the balance. The Brain features one of the most unusual and unique movie monsters ever in its titular foe. Once you have seen it, you will never forget it. If you like low-budget thrillers of the past such as Troll 2, The Toxic Avenger, and Piranha, then The Brain is for you.moreless
