The Bride Came C.O.D. is a classic 1941 romantic comedy starring Bette Davis and Jimmy Cagney. When temperamental Joan Winfield (Bette Davis), an oil heiress, impulsively decides to marry singer Allen Brice (Jack Carson), she hires a charter plane to whisk them to Las Vegas. She knows her father, Lucius (Eugene Pallette), will try to stop her. What she does not know is that the pilot, Steve Collins (James Cagney), has his own ideas. With bill collector Hinkle (Edward Brophy) threatening him with foreclosure, Steve needs cash and fast. He contacts Lucius and proposes kidnapping Joan and delivering her home to Amarillo. Lucius agrees to pay him by the pound. Steve manages to take off with Joan, but their plane crashes in the desert near an abandoned town. An old miner, Pop Tolliver (Harry Davenport), helps guide them to an abandoned town where Joan and Steve enjoy a candlelit dinner before Allen manages to track them down, and Sheriff McGee (William Frawley ) shows up to help straighten out Joan's messy love life.moreless
