The Bridesmaid tells the story of a young man Philippe Tardieu (Beno't Magimel) who is a hard working sales man who puts all of his energy into his job and has plenty of women in his life and little use for another. Between his mother's dubious new lover and his younger sister the kleptomaniac, he feels he has more than enough estrogen laden drama in his life. Until at his sister's wedding, Philippe meets a stunning young woman named Senta (Laura Smet), one of the bridesmaids, who he quickly falls head over heels for, in this romantic thriller. When Phillippe's new love interest suggests a homicidal pact to consummate their new relationship his fairytale romance quickly falls apart. This dark bridesmaid shows him a new murderous world and it may reveal just how far he is willing to go before they are done. This French film from director Claude Chabrol will have you thrilled until the end.

Metacritic Score

  • 80

The New York Times Manohla Dargis

    Deceptively understated and finally ferocious.

  • 80

    Los Angeles Times Kenneth Turan

Claude Chabrol makes his particular kind of unnerving, deliciously amoral thrillers look easy. Once you've made as many of them as he has, they probably are.

  • 70

    Variety Deborah Young

At 74, Chabrol is in full possession of his talent for elegant, understated filmmaking, though he's far from his disturbing films of the '50s and '60s.
