The Bridge at Remagen is a historical fiction film about the American effort at the close of World War II to capture the last remaining bridge over the Rhine. Lieutenant Hartman (George Segal) is leading his weary troops to the town of Remagen, where they will at last be allowed to rest. As Hartman's troops advance towards the bridge, Colonel General von Brock (Peter van Eyck) is ordered to destroy the Remagen bridge to protect his homeland, even though doing so will condemn the entire 15th division of the German army to death on the Allied side of the river. To prevent the slaughter of thousands of German soldiers, von Brock asks Major Paul Kr''ger (Robert Vaughn) to defend the bridge for as long as possible against the coming American assault. Though Hartman expects to meet little resistance at Remagen, Kr''ger uses each mile of the American regiment's march to prepare his men for the coming battle to protect the last direct path into Germany.moreless
