The Bubble is a politically inspired story on love by Israeli filmmaker Eytan Fox. Noam (Ohad Knoller) is a young, gay Israeli man working at a Tel Aviv checkpoint as a reservist. One day, as he works amid the chaos of the Middle East, a dark, mysterious man catches his eye - a Palestinian named Ashraf (Yousef "Joe" Sweid). Noam isn't able to strike conversation with Ashraf due to the incessant hustle and bustle at the border. When he returns to his bohemian roommates back home - Yali (Alon Friedman), another gay man, and Lulu (Daniela Virtzer) - he tells them of this man he fell in love with at the border. Shortly thereafter, Ashraf shows up at Noam's apartment with his passport, which he seemingly dropped at the checkpoint. It is clear Noam and Ashraf are attracted to one another. Noam brings Ashraf to the roof top where they share a moment, and a kiss. What ensues is a story of two men fighting for their love, despite all odds against them. Eytan Fox craftily creates a metaphor for the perpetual conflict between Israel and Palestine. Are Noam and Ashraf able to overcome their deep-rooted cultural differences?moreless
