The Capture is a 1950 drama directed by John Sturges, which tells the story of a man who has to pay for his own mistakes in an unusual way. Lin Vanner (Lew Ayres) works for an oil company as a manager, and is about to marry his fiancée. When someone steals the payroll money, a company's employee is suspected. Lin tracks down the man and, under confusing circumstances, shoots him. The fugitive is arrested, but dies due to his wounds in police custody. The investigation reveals that the man was innocent and that he wasn't actually running from anybody. Lin is deeply affected by this tragic occurrence and this causes him to quit his job, while his fiancée breaks their engagement and leaves him. Lin figures out that at least he can find the dead man's wife, and this is how he meets Ellen (Teresa Wright). Although he does not reveal his true identity, he agrees to work at her farm until her son is old enough to help his mother. However, the past is not forgotten, and Lin will soon face other challenges connected to the accident.moreless
