The Cell is a 2000 thriller about a psychologist who enters the mind of a serial killer in order to find out where he has hidden a woman he recently kidnapped. Catherine Deane (Jennifer Lopez) is a psychologist who specializes in using a state-of-the-art device that allows her to enter the consciousness of patients. When serial killer Carl Rudolph Stargher (Vincent D'Onofrio) falls into a coma before revealing the location of his latest victim, the FBI approaches Deane to ask for her help. Agent Novak (Vince Vaughn) convinces Deane to enter the perverse world of Stargher's mind, hoping she might be able to uncover the woman's location. While she is in Stargher's mind, she witnesses the abuse he received as a child and how it corrupted his soul. The evil side of Stargher eventually traps her inside his mind, at which point Agent Novak must enter her mind to try and free her before she is lost forever.

Mr. Singh may have an artist's temperament, and he shows signs of being a director

  • 30

    Variety Emanuel Levy

A slender story that's not particularly suspenseful or involving, resulting in a movie that's a feast to the eye but not much for the intellect.

Some movies make you sorry you've seen them, and The Cell is one of those. Creepy and horrific, it's a torture chamber film.
