The Children's Hour is a 1961 drama about the tense relationship between two young teachers. Karen (Audrey Hepburn) and Martha (Shirley MacLaine) have enjoyed a close friendship since college. The two have worked hard to open an all-girls boarding school together, channeling all their energy into creating an educational and wholesome environment. Along the way, their personal lives have been neglected. Karen has been engaged to Joe Cardin (James Garner) for years without actually setting a wedding date, while Martha remains cheerfully single. All their hard work is destroyed, however, when a vengeful student (Karen Balkin) begins spreading scandalous rumors about the two teachers. As parents begin to pull the students from the boarding school in droves, Karen and Martha are left in the shell of their former school, trying to figure out what went wrong and fight back against the lies that have ruined their careers. However, as they struggle with the accusations, new revelations come to light.
