The Chosen is a dramatic film that details the journey of friendship between two young boys and discovers if they are able to overcome their differences. This film is set in Brooklyn, New York during the 1940s, near the end of World War II. Two young Jewish boys, Danny Saunders (Robby Benson) and Reuven Malters (Barry Miller) are both raised in Brooklyn, but by two very different sets of parents. Danny's father, Reb Saunders (Rob Stieger) is a Hassidic Rabbi. He is a very strict father, commanding that his children follow his rules and his teachings. Reuven's father, Professor David Malters (Maximilian Schell) is Zionist. Although he teaches his children all the Jewish beliefs, he also allows them to explore the world on their own. The two boys become friends due to their love for stickball. While this friendship is always difficult, it takes an extreme turn when the two families strongly disagree over the plans for Israeli statehood. This debate may be strong enough to tear the friends apart forever, but the lessons learned through their silent time apart may teach the lessons both boys need to learn.moreless
