Movie Summary

Director:
David Twohy
Released:
2004
Rating:
PG-13

Riddick has marooned himself on an ice planet to protect the girl he rescued from the planet of creatures of the first movie. She was afraid to travel as a female on the space transport so she shaved her head and called herself "Jack." Now she is back as Kyra, and she's all grown up and just as tough a killer as Riddick is. A galaxy conquering horde of necromancers is going from planet to planet enslaving people to serve the Lord Marshal. Riddick is once again the hero as he saves the universe from complete destruction.

Metacritic Score

  • 40

The New York Times Stephen Holden

The action is so frenetic that the ominous mood isn't allowed to penetrate, and this time the human factor is all but erased.

  • 30

    Los Angeles Times Manohla Dargis

Not since John Travolta sprouted a head of dreadlocks and strapped on platform boots for "Battlefield Earth" has cinematic science fiction been such good-bad fun as in The Chronicl...

  • 20

    Variety David Rooney

May not quite gain entry to the hallowed pantheon of interstellar cheese of a "Battlefield Earth," but it's not far behind.
