The Clique, based on the best-selling books by Lisi Harrison, is a teen comedy following Massie Block (Elizabeth McLaughlin) and the group of popular schoolgirls she acts as the leader of. Friends of Massie’s parents, the Lyons family, move into the Block’s guest house, including their daughter Claire (Ellen Marlow), who will be joining Massie as a student at exclusive private school Octavian Country Day. Massie and her friends, the “Pretty Committee” make it their mission to keep Claire out of their group and unpopular at school. Despite their efforts, Claire’s self- assured personality and friendly demeanor earn her the attention of Chris Abeley, Massie’s crush, and the friendship of his sister Layne, the “unique girl” at OCD. Massie, even more inspired to make Claire’s life unbearable, puts her on the “Out” list and with the help of her friends, plays embarrassing pranks and tricks on her. Claire becomes determined to become a member of the Pretty Committee, even using Massie’s computer to pretend to be her and talk to the other girls, Alicia, Kristen, and Dylan, and turn them against Massie. Despite sneaky tactics and vindictive acts on both sides, Massie remains in control of her group, leaving Claire on the outside. Claire gets her big chance for revenge when she learns of Massie’s plan to publicly express her feelings to Chris, who has a girlfriend. Claire must decide between vengeance or the kindness that comes so naturally to her, and figure out which course of action will get her closer to being accepted by the Pretty Committee.moreless
