Movie Summary

Director:
Tom Brady
Released:
2007
Rating:
PG-13
The Comebacks is a hilarious spoof of those inspirational sports movies that crop up every year. It features Lambeau "Coach" Fields (David Koechner), the worst coach ever to grace a football field. This eternal loser is ready to give it all up until fellow coach Freddy Wiseman (Carl Weathers) persuades him to try one more time. So Fields moves his long-suffering family to the town of Plainfolk, Texas and assumes leadership of the football team at Heartland State University - a team that, like their new coach, raises incompetence to new levels. As they struggle through the season, the film makes fun of every over-done cliche in the sports movie genre, making fun of movies like Field of Dreams and Remember the Titans. Finally, with grit, determination, and somewhat unorthodox methods, Coach Fields and his misfits set their sights on a nearly impossible prize: winning the Second Annual Toilet Bowl. Whether they can do it or not will hang on their ability to work together as a true team.moreless

You'll be goaded throughout The Comebacks to think of "Bend It Like Beckham," "Remember the Titans," "Rudy," "Hoosiers," "Field of Dreams" and their ilk. What you also think about ...

    The New York Times

The movie's low aspirations are depressing because its best gags are agreeably demented.

Probably the worst movie that's sludged across my professional eyeballs -- worse than "Daddy Day Camp," "Baby Geniuses 2," and "BloodRayne."
