The Context is a suspense filled thriller movie, directed by Francesco Rosi in 1976, that follows the detective, Inspector Amerigo Rogas (Lino Ventura), as he investigates the deaths of several Supreme Court judges. As the investigation continues, however, Amerigo realizes that these mysterious deaths are not as they seem, and that all of the murder victims had sinister secret motives. The more Amerigo investigates, the higher the body count. Embroiled in this intrigue are the military and the deepest politics. At the insistence of his superiors, Amerigo does not dig any deeper into the steamy underbelly of the lives of the victims, and instead centers his investigation on three men unfairly convicted of earlier crimes, focusing almost exclusively on a man convicted of attempting to murder his wife. After he gets too close to the truth he is demoted, and it is uncertain if he will ever find the reason behind the killings.
