The Courtship of Eddie's Father is a 1963 family comedy about a father trying to find the right woman for himself and his critical 9-year old son. After Tom Corbett (Glenn Ford) loses his beloved wife, his first concern is his son Eddie (Ron Howard). After a time, Eddie lets his dad know that he wants a mother and that he will need to find a suitable woman. Although Eddie's first choice is Elizabeth Martin (Shirley Jones), their next door neighbor and his mother's best friend, Tom and Elizabeth have never gotten along. Tom enters the world of dating again and first meets Dollye Daly (Stella Stevens). The sweet and na''ve woman seems better suited to his friend, Norman (Jerry Van Dyke), and he plays matchmaker between the two. Tom then meets Rita Behrens (Dina Merrill), who seems perfect for him, but Eddie finds her squinty eyes suspicious and sets about putting his dad's dating life in order. Vincente Minnelli directs this popular romantic comedy that led to a successful TV series.
