The Cruel Tower is a 1956 romantic adventure film directed by Lew Landers and based on a novel by William B. Hartley. The film tells the story of Harry "Stretch" Clay (Charles McGraw) and Tom Kittredge (John Ericson), two construction workers building the newest addition to their city's skyline. After Tom, a dashing young man, meets Harry's beautiful girlfriend, Mary "The Babe" Thompson (Mari Blanchard), Harry immediately becomes suspicious that the two may have something other than friendship in mind. The two men begin to vie for her affection and soon become gripped in a cat-and-mouse game for superiority driven by jealousy, passion, and rage. When one man realizes that the construction site offers an easy cover-up for murder, he hatches a devious plot that will most certainly solve his problem once and for all. Will the vile plan succeed, or will the enamored mouse be caught in his own trap?
