The Cry uses the legend of La Llorona as the basis for a series of child disappearances in Central Park. The legend is about a woman called La Llorona who, 500 years ago, drowned her children. Since the 1550's La Llorona is most often seen during a full moon, wandering the streets of Mexico City in a white dress with a veil covering her face. When she reaches La Plaza Mayor, she gives a desperate, horrific cry and then vanishes into the lake. Now 500 years later, the spirit of The Crying Woman, La Llorona, takes both children into the water herself and also possesses mothers and makes them sacrifice their children to bodies of water. The homicide detective in charge is Detective Scott (Christian Camargo), who must battle both the horrors of the crimes and his own personal demons; his ex-wife drowned his own child in a similar fashion years ago.
