The Cure is a 1995 drama about a unique friendship. Dexter (Joseph Mazzello) might seem like a normal teenager growing up in a small Minnesotan town. However, his life was changed forever by a blood transfusion that means he is now HIV positive. Although he mostly meets with ignorance and fear about his condition, Dexter finds a friend in the form of Erik (Brad Renfro). Although the two do not get along at first, they soon become close friends. Erik's mother (Diana Scarwid) rarely has time to spend with Erik, and he enjoys the companionship of Dexter and Dexter's friendly mother, Linda (Annabella Sciorra). As the two friends spend more and more time together, Erik has to work harder to keep his friendship a secret from his unsympathetic mother. When the boys hear about a potential cure for AIDS, they instantly know what they have to do. Together, they set off on an adventure that could either give Dexter new hope or end in heartbreak.
