Young teens Red White (Michael Chapin) and Judy Dawson (Eilene Dawson) are desperate and eager to help Red's grandfather, Sheriff Tom White (James Bell), in his fight against Ace Crandall (Robert Shane). Ace is a con artist who is trying to gain control of the entire Paiute, Arizona county and profit as much from the community as possible. He initiates a plan that involves foreclosing a majority of the community homes, and ejecting the local sheriff from office. However, as the Dakota Kid begins spending more time with Judy, Red, and other community members, he begins to feel different about his plan.
