The Damned Don't Cry is a 1950 drama about Ethel (Joan Crawford), a housewife with a grim life. Ethel hates the isolation she experiences while living in Texas, staying only for the sake of her family. However, after an unexpected tragedy strikes, Ethel decides to leave her husband (Richard Egan). Although the large city is very different from her previous home, Ethel is prepared for the challenge. She uses her beauty and her wiles to make her own way in the city, all the while trying to forget about her painful past. Before very long, Ethel has managed to become a companion and friend of the wealthy and influential George Castleman (David Brian). George is charmed by Ethel's rough edges and promises to transform her into the high-living socialite she has always wanted to be. When Ethel meets George's biggest rival, Nick Prenta (Steve Cochran), something unexpected happens and Ethel may have to face another tragedy.
