Movie Summary

Director:
Harvey Kahn
Released:
2004
Rating:
R
The Deal is a timely political thriller dealing with the danger and intrigue of the international oil trade. Tom Hanson (Christian Slater) is a prominent Wall Street broker who must mediate a deal between his client and a shady Russian oil cartel. He is aided by an idealistic, environmentally conscious Harvard graduate, Abby (Selma Blair), as he uncovers layer after layer of deceit and corruption with potentially lethal consequences. As they work together to both make the deal go through and her aspiration of making alternative energy more prevalent a reality, Hanson finds that they have become pawns in a dangerous game being played well above their heads, with both his client company's CEO, Jared Tolson (Robert Loggia), and many other unlikely players involved. The mystery and intrigue are only compounded as Hanson and his young associate attempt to not only finish the job, but make it out alive. Angie Harmon and Colm Feore also star in this riveting thriller that may be more relevant and jarring now than ever.moreless

The film might have worked as a taut, topical corporate intrigue thriller; instead, for all its ambition, it's just a routine mystery, despite a solid performance by Christian Slater.
