The Desert Trail is a western movie directed by Lewis D. Collins in 1935 and starring John Wayne. Two unlikely friends, a rodeo champion John Scott (Wayne) and his womanizing gambler friend, Kansas Charlie (Eddy Chandler), become reluctant fugitives after a case of mistaken identity. John Scott is forced to claim his prize money at gun point from a crooked rodeo promoter, and coincidentally the rodeo official is robbed of the rest of the rodeo's takings and murdered. The real culprit, Pete (Al Ferguson) and his accomplice Jim (Paul Fix) claim to have seen the pair of friends running away from the scene of the crime. John and Kansas Charlie head for Poker City, determined to hunt down the real criminals. They assume new identities with Kansas Charlie posing as the Reverend Harry Smith. There is a light-hearted comedy touch throughout the movie with the continuous good-natured squabbling of the two friends. Wayne's romantic interest is the blond and beautiful Anne, (Mary Kornman) who works in the general store.moreless
