From moment one of the movie, we know that American embassy official and secret US intelligence agent Steve Ventura (Anthony Quinn) will do whatever it takes in order to take down Parisian drug kingpin Jacques Brizard (James Mason). But when his best efforts to complete his assignment fail, Ventura decides to try more unconventional methods: hiring a hitman to take down the elusive Brizard before he receives a large shipment of drugs being shipped into Marseilles on the 18th. The assassin John Deray (Michael Caine), however, turns out to be a friend from Ventura's past who has his own agenda. Deray befriends and seduces Brizard's daughter Rita (Alexandra Stewart) and when Brizard hires him to make a hit as well, things start to get really complicated, particularly when Ventura changes his mind about killing Quinn.moreless
