Movie Summary

Director:
Philippe de Broca
Released:
1969
Rating:
PG
The Devil by the Tail is a hilarious comedy that puts an eccentric family and not-so-smart criminal in the same home. In the film, a family finds their home, falling apart and they lack the funds to make the repairs. To try to raise the money they need, the family decides to turn the house into an inn. Unfortunately, the guest list is too short and the owner (Madeleine Renaud) of the inn talks her boyfriend, the mechanic, into telling tourists who stop at his garage that he cannot fix their car until the morning. This will force them to spend the night at the inn and the plan is working, until a trio of bank robbers, led by Ceasar (Yves Montand), shows up in the town. After one night at the inn, they decide that it is a good place to hide out for a while, which may be the worse mistake they make. Little do they know, the inn's owners are willing to murder for a piece of the stolen money. Lucky for the bank robbers, the family's murder plots are not working out so well.moreless
