The Devil Came on Horseback is a 2007 documentary directed by Ricki Stern and Anne Sundberg. It won the Full Frame/Working Films Award and the Seeds of War award at the 2007 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, the Adrienne Shelley Excellence in Filmmaking Award at the 2007 Nantucket Film Festival, the Women in Cinema Lena Sharpe Award at the 2007 Seattle International Film Festival, and the Witness Award at the 2007 Silverdocs Documentary Festival. The film focuses on the continuing conflict in Darfur as witnessed by United States Marine Captain Brian Steidle. It is based on his book wrote and his experiences with the African Union. Using Steidle's own photographs and testimony, the film goes in-depth on the danger black Africans face in Darfur from the Arabian-run government that wants drive them out. Steidle ultimately retired from the service to focus on doing what he could to expose the conflict and help the residents of war-torn Darfur.
