The Devil Doll (1936) is a science-fiction horror film about Paul Lavond (Lionel Barrymore), who seeks revenge for being wrongly convicted and imprisoned for robbing his own bank and killing a watchman. After seventeen years of imprisonment, Paul escapes Devil's Island with Marcel (Henry B. Walthall), a scientist who has created a formula that is able to shrink humans to one-sixth their original size. Because the earth has limited resources, the formula's purpose is to make people smaller so that everyone is able to have enough. The formula is not used for this intended purpose, however, but used by Paul and the scientist's widow, Malita (Rafaela Ottiano), to exact revenge on the men responsible for his imprisonment. Paul is eventually able to clear his name and complete his revenge, but when he tries to break ties with Malita, she grows angry and unreasonable, and Paul must make a difficult decision to maintain the happiness of his estranged daughter, Lorraine (Maureen O'Sullivan).moreless
