The Devil’s Backbone is the 2001 chilling supernatural thriller written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth), and is now available on Amazon. Like many of Guillermo del Toro’s films, The Devils backbone illustrates life during the Spanish Civil War. Orphaned 10 year old Carlos is tricked into staying at an orphanage, in the middle of nowhere, by his caretaker. In the middle of the orphanage’s courtyard stands a bomb, dropped long ago and never detonated, that no one knows when it will go off. To no surprise, he encounters teasing and thievery at the orphanage, but all is not normal. Carlos soon encounters the ghost of young Santi, a boy who once slept in his bed before mysteriously disappearing. Santi’s ghost leads Carlos to dangerous parts of the orphanage, where he and the other boys uncover the truth of his death and a malicious and violent plot. It’s up to the orphans to defend their home and finally put Santi’s ghost to rest.moreless
