Director:
Rob Zombie
Released:
2005
Rating:
R

The Devil's Rejects is Rob Zombie's sequel to the 2003 splatter-fest House of 1,000 Corpses. Taking place seven months after the events in Corpses, the story begins with what's left of the Firefly family (Captain Spaulding, Baby, Otis, and Tiny) on the lam. Sheriff John Quincey Wydell (William Forsythe) and his crew have managed to pin over seventy-five homicides and kidnappings to the family. With nowhere else to go, they hide out at an old motel. It isn't long before their savage tendencies come into play with a traveling country band, Banjo and Sullivan. The law tightens its grip on The Fireflies, they are left with no choice but to confront them face to face. The final showdown, set to Lynyrd Skynyrd's classic rock masterpiece "Free Bird," is one for the books. Sid Haig, Bill Moesely, and Sheri Moon Zombie reprise their roles from House of 1,000 Corpses. The Devil's rejects was released in 2005 by Lions Gate Entertainment and Maple Pictures.

The Devil's Rejects is a trompe l'oeil experiment in deliberately retro filmmaking. It looks sensational, but there is a curious emptiness at its core.

Crass, vacuous exercise in grind-house stylistics.
