The Discoverers: IMAX was originally released in 1993 by MacGillivray Freeman Films. It was directed by Jon Boorstin and based on the book by Daniel J. Boorstin. The film, which is narrated by Robert Eather, was marketed with the tagline "Feel the Courage. Live the Adventure." It takes a look back across the ages analyzing the act of discovery and what drives man to discover. The film opens with the story of Magellan and his voyage to find a passage to the Pacific. It then goes on to a number of other vignettes featuring reenactments of other historical discoveries from the 1600's to present day. It includes the work of great men of discovery from the past, like Sir Isaac Newton and Dr. Louis Herman. It then looks into the future and ponders what great discoveries are yet to come. The film's images are crisp and clean, including some breathtaking scenery and startling discoveries.
