The Disenchanted is an unconventional French film about a young woman coming into her own amidst a unhelpful environment. Seventeen year old B'th (Judith Godreche) is not enjoying what anyone would consider the charmed life. The young girl lives with her mother (Th'r'se Liotard), a prostitute, who is perpetually sick and unable to work. Offering occasional financial support is the doctor (Ivan Desny) that cares for her mom, who now has his sixty year old sights set on B'th. And her crude and unpleasant boyfriend (Malcolm Conrath) is much more than rough around the edges, taking the young beauty completely for granted. During an all too common fight, he suggests that B'th seek out the most repulsive man she can find, a offer that the troubled girl unexpectedly takes him up on, leading her into a journey that will take her to Alphonse (Marcel Bozonnet), a slightly older and very different man than B'th is used to. In a matter of days, her life is transformed, opening her up to a brand new world. Beno't Jacquot directs this charming and simple look at a young girl's own personal story of discovery.moreless
