The Divorce of Lady X is a 1938 British romantic comedy that tells the story of Leslie Steele, played by Merle Oberon. One evening Leslie attends a high-society costume party, but is forced to spend the night when the London fog is particularly bad. Leslie then talks her way into sharing a room with the dashing lawyer Everard Logan (Laurence Olivier). The two spend the night together, but Everard becomes suspicious that Leslie might be a married woman. When Everard's old friend Lord Mere (Ralph Richardson) arrives to ask him for representation in a divorce case, he realizes that Lord Mere is divorcing Lady Claire (Binnies Barnes). Everard is caught in a sticky situation when he realizes that he is in love with the woman that one of his clients is divorcing. Also starring Morton Selten, Gus McNaughton, J.H. Roberts, and Gertrude Musgrove, The Divorce of Lady X is a remake of the 1933 film Counsel's Opinion.
