The Dogwalker is a 1999 romantic comedy drama directed by Paul Duran. The film is set in Los Angeles and focuses on Jerry Cooper (Will Stewart). Jerry is having to face the harsh reality of suddenly being homeless and sleeping in his car. Despite his gloomy circumstances, he goes out of his way to help an elderly woman, Alma (Carol Gustafson), and her dog Lucky, when she faints in the street. Hearing of his heroics, the woman's daughter, Helene (Stepfanie Kramer), hires him to move in and care for Alma and Lucky. Jerry does not have any of the necessary skills to take care of them correctly, but Helene is too selfish to take that into consideration. Helene and her daughter, Susan (Nicki Aycox), both began to make sexual advances towards the man and he realizes he is in way over his head. With no one else to turn to, Jerry enlists the help of his friends, Mones (Tony Todd), a small-time drug dealer and K.C. (Cress Williams), a homeless mechanic, to help him sort out his messy life.moreless

    Los Angeles Times Manohla Dargis

This is, after all, a film in which no one leads life according to script -- but, then, that's also the reason it works.

    Variety

There's an infectious, spry quality to much of The Dogwalker, an indie that benefits from amusing characters, strong thesping and taut situational humor.

    Film Threat

A pleasant enough little film. Jerry isn’t what one would call a sympathetic figure, but you find yourself cheering for him anyway.
