Movie Summary

John Sturges

The Eagle Has Landed is a 1976 World War II film directed by John Sturges. The film opens with one of Adolf Hitler's most trusted advisors, Heinrich Himmler (Donald Pleasence), helping to devise a plan that will result in the kidnapping of Great Britain's leader, Winston Churchill. German Admiral Canaris (Anthony Quayle) is ordered to consider the strategies possible to carry out this mission and to determine their chances of success. Canaris thinks the mission is doomed to fail and delegates his responsibilities to Oberst Radl (Robert Duvall). Surprisingly Radl manages to develop a plan that is approved by the German leaders and he is ordered to find an officer to lead the mission. Oberst Radl selects Oberst Kurt Steiner (Michael Caine) for the mission, regardless of the fact that he is anti-Nazi. Steiner and his men don the uniforms of Polish soldiers and prepare to parachute into Great Britain, where they face many enemies and almost certain death.
