The Earrings of Mademe de... is a 1953 romantic drama directed by Max Oph''ls. Set in Paris in the late 1800s, Comtesse Louise (Danielle Darrieux) is forced to betray her marriage. In order to deal with her dark secret of financial debt, Louise sells off a pair of beautiful earrings that her husband, G''n''ral Andr'' (Charles Boyer), gave her on their wedding day. Little does Louise realize that her husband will soon buy the earrings a second time, this time giving the jewels as a romantic gift to his mistress, Lola (Lia Di Leo). The earrings' journey is not over yet. Lola has debts of her own and sells the earrings in Constantinople, where they catch the eye of Baron Fabrizio Donati (Vittorio De Sica). He purchases the earrings and then travels to Paris, where he encounters Louise. The journey of the earrings means that all four of the lovers must face their secret doubts and affections for each other.
