The Education of Shelby Knox is a documentary about public speaker and feminist Shelby Knox. The town of Lubbock, where Shelby grew up, has some of the highest rates in the country for STDs and teen pregnancy. Shelby's school has decided to get rid of the normal sexual education class and they will only teach abstinence in its place. Shelby Knox realizes this is a serious problem and she joins the Lubbock Youth Commission to campaign to have a proper sexual education class at the school. The campaign gets heated and ends up including fighting for a straight-gay alliance in efforts to stand up to the town and the school's beliefs. Marion Lipschutz and Rose Rosenblatt produced this documentary. In 2005 this film was in the Sundance Film Festival, the Sonoma Valley Film Festival, SXSW Film Festival, The Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, Fresno Reel Pride Film Festival, and The Full frame Film Festival.
