The Edukators is a 2004 film of German and Austrian production. Peter (Stipe Erceg) and Jan (Daniel Brühl) are two anti-capitalist friends with a strange hobby. Every night, they travel out to the suburbs of Berlin, break into homes, and teach lessons to their consumerist owners. Jule (Julia Jentsch), Peter’s girlfriend, is €100,000 in debt. She crashed into a businessman’s Mercedes and has been paying for it ever since. One night, while Peter is away, Jule convinces Jan to sneak into the businessman’s house. When they get there, no one is home, leaving plenty of time for Jan and Jule to kiss and for Jule to accidentally leave her cell phone in the house. That’s where all the trouble starts. The film received favorable reviews and even caused a few copy cat crimes in its native Germany. In 2004, it was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, but lost to Fahrenheit 911.
