The Eiger Sanction is a 1975 thriller directed by Clint Eastwood, based on the novel of the same name by Trevanian (The pseudonym of Rodney William Whitaker). Eastwood Stars as Dr. Jonathan Hemlock, a professor, art expert, mountaineer, and part-time spy. Hemlock’s boss, Dragon, an ex-nazi albino, wants him to “sanction” (kill) two men who have killed another government agent. When Hemlock tells Dragon he’s not interested in “sanctioning” anymore, Dragon asks him if the IRS would be interested in how he acquired his impressive art collection. Hemlock agrees to one more job, in addition to a gigantic fee, he will also receive a letter legalizing his art collection. That’s where the trouble begins. Filmed in Grindelwald, Switzerland, The Eiger Sanction features some of the most thrilling mountaineering scenes in the history of film. Though not well received upon its release, over the years, it has achieved a cult audience and has been seen as more than a james bond rip-off.moreless
