The Enchanted Cottage is a 1945 romantic fantasy directed by John Cromwell. Oliver Bradford (Robert Young) offered his services as a pilot in World War II, but he left the war forever changed. His war wounds left him badly scarred and ashamed of his appearance, unsure of whether he will ever find love and contentment. Although he was supposed to marry beautiful Beatrice (Hillary Brooke), Oliver instead decides to rent a secluded, peaceful cottage and hide from the world. His only real company is the cottage's owner, Mrs. Minnett (Mildred Natwick), and the young woman she hires to clean, Laura (Dorothy McGuire). Laura has never been considered a great beauty and also despairs of ever finding acceptance. As Oliver and Laura slowly get to know each other, neither of them notice each other's flaws anymore. Laura suggests that perhaps the cottage is enchanted, but Oliver wonders if it is actually love.
