The English Patient, directed by Anthony Minghella, is a 1996 romantic war drama based on the book of the same name written by Michael Ondaatje. The film is set before and during World War II. The film begins with a mysterious young man, the English patient, (Ralph Fiennes), being rescued from a terrible plane crash. He is badly burned and in need of immediate medical attention. He is taken to an abandoned Italian monastery which has been made into a makeshift hospital. At the hospital, the English patient is cared for by Hana (Juliette Binoche). Hana cares for the patient and begins to develop loving feelings for the injured man. However, what Hana does not know is the man has dangerous secrets that put himself and anyone near him in danger. Will Hana be at risk when the English patient's secret comes to light, or will he be able to put his past behind him and start a new life?
