The Evil Dead is a 1981 horror movie directed by Sam Raimi. Five friends are planning on spending the night in a cabin in the woods. The kids decide to snoop around in the basement of the cabin and find the Book of the Dead along with a recording of its text. When they play the recording, an evil spirit is awakened and possesses Cheryl (Ellen Sandweiss) and forces her to walk into the woods where she is attacked by trees. Ash (Bruce Campbell) drives her into town, but the bridge is mutilated beyond recognition. They are forced to return to the cabin where Ash's girlfriend Linda (Betsy Baker) has been possessed by the evil spirit. Ash is forced to kill her and the rest of his friends one by one as they are all possessed and become deadites. The Evil Dead launched the careers of director Sam Raimi and perennial b-movie star Bruce Campbell. The Evil Dead and its sequels Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness have become cult classics.moreless
