The Fake is a 1953 British thriller film directed by Godfrey Grayson. The film follows Paul Mitchell (played by Dennis O'Keefe), an American who has been hired to guard the priceless Leonardo Da Vinci painting Madonna and Child as it travels to an exhibition in London, England. Of course the painting gets stolen from the museum and it is now up to Paul to hunt down the thieves who took the painting and replaced it with a forgery. Paul goes around questioning experts about counterfeiting and eventually his suspicions fall upon the painter Henry Mason (played by John Lurie). However his investigation into Mason is compromised by the fact that Paul is having a relationship with Henry's daughter, Mary (played by Coleen Gray). The film was shot on location in England and features some scenes actually within the famous Tate art gallery.
