The Falcon and the Snowman is a political thriller based on the true story of two men who sold secrets to the Soviet Union in the 1970s. The "Falcon" is Christopher Boyce (Timothy Hutton), a civilian defense contractor whose job allows him to read top-secret documents. He finds evidence of duplicity on the part of the U.S. and decides to get back at them by spying for the Soviet Union. He enlists the aid of his long-time friend, Daulton Lee (Sean Penn). Lee, known as the "Snowman" due to his drug addiction and small-time drug dealer activities, agrees to contact the Russians strictly for the money. When Lee's increasingly erratic behavior begins to cause trouble with the Russians, the friends' lives start to spiral out of control. Directed by John Schlesinger and based on the bestseller written by Robert Lindsay, The Falcon and the Snowman features great acting from Hutton and a mesmerizing performance by Penn.
