The Fan is a thriller film directed by Edward Bianchi based on the novel of the same name by Bob Randall that centers on the menacing suspense as a stalker slowly begins to take whatever steps to gain his ultimate fantasy. Sally Ross (Lauren Bacall) has had a long career as a glamorous and renowned Broadway actress and film celebrity. Of course, she has had her share of adoring and idolizing fans though often her faithful secretary Belle (Maureen Stapleton) has done her best to weed out the inappropriate. When Douglas Breen (Michael Biehn), a long time fan, begins to amp up his fan letters, moving from adoring to slowly obsessive, Belle begins ignoring his letters. Not one to be ignored, Douglas begins to get rid of the obstacles in his way, including her friends and any of her dates. The Fan is a slow build of what happens when adoration turns sour in a stark tale with real life connections.moreless
