The Fear Inside is a 1992 dramatic thriller about Meredith Cole (Christine Lahti), a successful children's book illustrator. Despite her recent divorce from her husband, Brandon (David Ackroyd), Meredith still tries to put a brave face on life for the sake of her son, Sean (Thomas Ian Nicholas). However, Meredith also suffers from increasingly debilitating agoraphobia. Unable to venture out into the world for something as simple as errands, she realizes that she has to make changes to provide a more comfortable life for her son. She puts out an ad for boarders to share her big, rambling house. Jane (Jennifer Rubin) seems like the perfect candidate, perky and dedicated. She even brings along her brother, Peter (Dylan McDermott), who claims to be an ex-cop. Soon after the new boarders move in, Meredith starts to have suspicions. Peter and Jane behave more like a couple in love than like siblings, and it seems they are hiding dark secrets. Before long Meredith is a hostage in her own home, and only her love for Sean holds the hope of salvation.
